Birthright
Linda Chavez's and George will are 2 great writers with different point of views
about the interpretation of the 14th amendment, and birthright citizenship. Both
authors are persuasive in their arguments and both authors provide great points
The argument of whether birthright citizenship should be granted for children born
in the US to illegal immigrants is a disturbing subject especially for illegal
immigrants who are here in the U.S and hoping to someday become a U.S citizen which
is why the 14th amendment should not be repealed. Section 1 of of the 14th amendment
clearly states that "All persons born or naturalized in the United States and of the
state wherein they reside, are citizens of the United States and the state wherein
they reside. The 14th amendment clearly indicates that if you were born here you are a citizen.

Reversal of the 14th amendment will mean re-writing a law that could change the
citizenship for many children who think of themselves as Americans .it could be
devastating for many children born here to illegal aliens who think of the US as
their home. If the 14th amendment is altered or repealed, Lisa Chavez writes, "
would fundamentally change what it means to be an American." Do we as Americans want
to re-write history?? The final piece of birthright citizenship reform will be a
large increase of the amount of illegal immigrants that remain in this country.
Illegal immigrants will still do whatever it takes to get into this country as long
as their is room for opportunity. I feel that if conservatives want to stop illegal
immigrant from entering the country, they should should take other measures of
prevention. They should not repeal the amendment which would change what most Americans are: "illegal immigrants"
Under the federal laws of the U.S, birthright citizenship is granted to all children
born on the soil of the U.S. George will stated " To end the practice of "birthright
citizenship," all that is required is to correct the misinterpretation of that
amendment's first sentence: "All persons born or naturalized in the United States,
and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the
state wherein they reside."" Birthright citizenship has been a tradition in this
country for centuries. To try to reinterpret the first sentence of the 14th
amendment would mean to eliminate what makes this country such a great place. People
from all over the world want to come the U.S because of the equal opportunity that
this country provides, and for a better life. This is the same reason that the first
Europeans settlers left their native country and explored new territory. If the
people who wrote the 14th amendment intended it to not include illegal immigrants, I
believe that they would have stated it in the amendment.
The U.S is filled with People from all over the world. People come here because the
U.s provides the greatest opportunity for people to strive and become what they
dreamed to be. repealing birthright citizenship for children born here to illegal
immigrants will not stop people from trying to cross the border and enter into this
country illegally, because america is the greatest place on earth to live and raise a family. I believe that our government should not re-write history by changing the 14th amendment,but instead be grateful that people want to live and raise their family here in the United states
